Charles Scribner's Sons, 1940. First edition, first printing in a first state dust jacket. The letter "A" is present on copyright page and dust jacket shows printed price of $2.75 and photograph of Hemingway on rear panel uncredited.

Book: Near fine. Dust jacket: Good. Bound in original beige cloth, front board lettered in black, spine stamped in red and black. Pages are unmarked but lightly browned and binding is firm. Original binding glue has discolored pastedowns along spine. Boards are clean and corners are sharp. Bottom of spine has softened slightly. Dust jacket is protected in mylar. Light chipping at corners and moderate chipping at bottom of spine. Larger chips missing at top of spine. Creasing and small rips along most edges and one closed tear at top back of jacket.
