Scarce first edition of this work divided into two parts, one on the origin of the Greek sphere according to Warburton's system and the history of the deities, the other containing the analysis of the ideas of ancient philosophers, which Noël-Antoine Pluche (1688-1761) contrasted with Moses’ cosmogony.
Very good. Small 8vo. Frontispiece to volume one, plus 24 full page engraved plates. Bindings uniform calf, blind rule to covers, marbled endpapers. Gilt titles and detail, five raised bands and contrasting brown labels on spine. Hinges secure, text blocks square and tight. Covers and backs rubbed and scuffed, loss and wear to extremities, corners rounded. Contents crisp, fresh and unmarked.
