Von Den Erfyndern Der Dyngen: Germany, 1537.

Fine original leaf with two large woodcuts from a 1537 German book with the title: "Von den erfyndern der dyngen..."(Concerning the inventors of things) which is the first editon of the translation of Polydorus Vergilius' book "De inventoribus rerum".

This book was first published in 1499 and is a sort of encyclopedia of natural history, technology, religion, etc. The German translation has woodcuts on many subjects, primarily by Hans Weiditz, but also some by Hans Schaeufelein, Hans Burgkmair and other artists.

Polydorus Vergilius was born 1470 in Urbino, Italy and died there on April 18, 1555. He was a humanist who spent most of his life in England, writing several books besides De inventoribus rerum and is mainly known for his History of England, published in 1534 which is the reason why he is also called "Father of English History"
